[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City announced on the 14th that it has commenced construction of the Geomdan-Gyeongmyeong-ro road to improve transportation convenience in Geomdan New Town.
The Geomdan-Gyeongmyeong-ro road will be a 4.09 km long, 4-lane road with a total project cost of 299 billion KRW, scheduled for completion in March 2026.
This road is planned to connect Seo-gu Sicheon-dong with the Incheon Airport Expressway, significantly improving Seoul accessibility not only for Geomdan New Town but also for residents of Gyeyang-gu and Seo-gu.
As apartment move-ins in Geomdan New Town accelerated in June last year, increased traffic volume caused growing inconvenience for residents, leading to strong local demands for prompt commencement of construction.
Accordingly, the city negotiated with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to obtain the final approval for connecting to the Incheon Airport Expressway, securing the Geomdan IC road connection permit in September last year.
An Incheon City official stated, "Once this project is completed, a road network connecting Geomdan New Town with Seoul, Ilsan, Bucheon, and other areas will be established, greatly enhancing transportation convenience for citizens. We will also actively promote the extension of three stations on Incheon Subway Line 1, targeted to open in 2024, and the preliminary feasibility study for the extension of Incheon Line 2 to Goyang."
