Noh Gwan-gyu, Suncheon Mayor Preliminary Candidate, Integrates Suncheon Agriculture with Advanced Smart Farming and Garden Industry

Policy Proposal Adopted as Agricultural Pledge After Receiving Suggestions from Suncheon Youth Startup CEO

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] No Gwan-gyu, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Suncheon, announced on the 14th that he adopted a policy proposal titled "Suncheon, the City of Gardens, Meets Agriculture" from a representative of a Suncheon youth startup as an agricultural sector pledge.

The main content of the agricultural policy proposed to candidate No is to "utilize smart domes to create indoor gardens and rest areas that can be enjoyed regardless of season or weather, as well as advanced greenhouses for growing vegetables and flowers that allow tours and dining, and amusement parks, each forming smart farms of over 1,000 pyeong."

Additionally, "as a smart urban agriculture plan utilizing idle spaces in the old downtown area, it can be composed diversely from small-scale advanced greenhouses producing eco-friendly salad vegetables and seedlings to medium- to large-scale advanced greenhouses equipped with washing and packaging facilities that produce eco-friendly vegetables for school meals and employ elderly labor."

In response to this proposal from the youth startup representative, preliminary candidate No Gwan-gyu added, "The profits generated here should be designed as a citizen-shared type like a national fund, and the vegetables produced in the advanced greenhouses could be used for school meals or welfare for low-income or near-poverty groups," deciding to adopt it as a pledge.

Candidate No stated, "By utilizing smart domes, not only can indoor gardens be created, but job creation through fostering related industries is possible, integrating culture and economy into agriculture, making it a multiplex and a landmark of Suncheon."

He also claimed, "More than 500 jobs can be created in such facilities, and additional job creation can be expected depending on the scale expansion or fostering of related industries, allowing Suncheon’s youth to commute to work via smart domes."

Meanwhile, a smart dome is an agricultural house dome similar to an air dome house, with a ceiling height of up to about 25 meters, capable of creating a space of over 1,000 pyeong without pillars. It is characterized by lower construction costs compared to general buildings.
