[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Genesis held a Design Night event on the 13th (local time) at Genesis House, a complex cultural space in Manhattan, New York, USA, unveiling the X Speedium Coupe concept. The company explained that this concept car was created to share the future electric vehicle design direction envisioned by Genesis, embodying the brand’s design philosophy and condensing inspiration for the future.
This concept model is a step forward from the Genesis X, which was unveiled in March last year. The company stated that it aimed to express “dynamic elegance.” Inspired by Korea’s representative racing track, it reflects the belief in continuously pursuing the value of driving pleasure even in the electrification era. Unlike concept cars intended for mass production, it does not define the vehicle’s form or class.
Luke Donckerwolke, Genesis Chief Creative Officer (CCO, Vice President), said, “It was born from a free design exercise process that did not go through a standardized process as a kind of ‘design model.’ This experimental model contains the DNA of the Genesis brand and shows the infinite possibilities of future electric vehicle design.”
It follows the reductive design principle that less is better. At the front, it incorporates Genesis’s signature dual lines and wing face, and the grille is designed as a two-line Cresto grille to suit the characteristics of electric vehicles. The headlamps integrate daytime running lights, low beams, high beams, and turn signals. When viewed from above, an hourglass silhouette is applied.
The parabolic line extends from the hood to the rear end, showing a smooth curve. The trunk is oval-shaped, and the brake lights are V-shaped. The color applied is Inje Green, a deep emerald green metallic color often used in classic cars of the past. It is named after the region where the racing track is located.
