Chosun University Hospital Selected for 'Pilot Project to Activate Child Abuse Specialized Medical Institutions'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Chosun University Hospital announced on the 14th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's pilot project to revitalize 'Child Abuse Dedicated Medical Institutions.'

The purpose of this project is to strengthen the expertise in judgment and treatment of child abuse through budget and education support for dedicated medical institutions, and to establish and operate an organic cooperation system to activate the operation.

The eight selected metropolitan dedicated medical institutions and 45 regional dedicated medical institutions will carry out the project from April to December 2022, with metropolitan dedicated medical institutions receiving 100 million KRW per institution (50% national funds, 50% local funds).

Chosun University Hospital, selected as the metropolitan dedicated medical institution in the Gwangju area, will assist when regional dedicated medical institutions request judgment consultation, provide education on signs of abuse to regional dedicated medical institutions, and connect for continuous treatment of abused children when necessary.

Hospital Director Kim Kyung-jong said, "Child abuse is shifting from being recognized as a family issue to a social problem," adding, "We will do our best to fulfill our role as a regional dedicated medical institution through close cooperation with regional dedicated medical institutions and related organizations."

Meanwhile, Chosun University Hospital has been operating the Gwangju Sunflower Center on consignment since 2006. To help victims of violence against women, families, and school violence comfortably and promptly, female police officers and counselors provide 24-hour consultation, investigation, legal, and medical services, offering integrated support to socially vulnerable groups.
