Ajou University, Bucheon University, Dong-A University, Sejong University, Honam University Selected
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education announced on the 14th that it has selected and approved five universities to operate domestic university curricula at foreign universities.
The system for operating domestic university curricula at foreign universities supports local universities in operating the curricula of domestic universities without establishing branches or campuses of domestic universities abroad, and awards degrees from the domestic universities.
This time, including four programs from two universities that requested re-approval, the operation of 11 curricula from five universities (Ajou University, Bucheon University, Dong-A University, Sejong University, Honam University) was approved.
Ajou University operates high-demand IT and construction workforce training programs at a local university newly established under Uzbekistani law for overseas educational exchange in the field of education. Bucheon University also operates three majors in high demand?early childhood education, architecture, and business administration?at a local university in Uzbekistan. Honam University operates degree programs in business administration, fine arts, and literature in cooperation with six universities including Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.
Dong-A University has prepared an English-based tourism and hospitality industry expert training program with Duy Tan University in Da Nang, Vietnam, to cultivate specialized personnel in the tourism industry. Sejong University has Sejong University faculty members in charge of core major courses at Qingdao Agricultural University in China and utilizes specialized facilities such as 3D and special effects studios at the Chinese university to train animation experts.
Domestic full-time faculty members directly teach at least one-quarter of the major courses each semester, and on-site staff are dispatched to conduct self-inspections every semester. Since the conditions of the host countries vary, matters beyond the operational standards provided by the Ministry of Education are to be determined autonomously through agreements or academic regulations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye stated, "By providing and supporting domestic curricula abroad, the Ministry of Education and universities will work together to share the expertise and capabilities of our university education with countries around the world and expand cooperation."
