The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee announced on the 13th that four candidates were selected out of nine preliminary candidates for Changwon Special Mayor.
As a result of the first cutoff in the primary, ▲ Kim Sang-gyu, former Fiscal Management Officer at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance ▲ Jang Dong-hwa, Vice Chairman of the People Power Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party Council ▲ Cha Joo-mok, former Secretary General of the People Power Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party ▲ Hong Nam-pyo, former Director of the Science and Technology Strategy Headquarters at the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning advanced to the main primary.
Prominent candidates such as National Assembly member Kang Ki-yoon, former four-term lawmaker Kim Jae-kyung, former Jinju Deputy Mayor Song Byung-kwon, former Chairman of Changwon Facilities Corporation Jo Cheong-rae, and former President of the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Institute Heo Young faced defeat.
The four candidates who passed the preliminary primary will campaign from the 16th to the 20th and compete in the primary election from the 21st to the 22nd.
The final candidate will be decided on the 23rd by reflecting 50% of the votes from responsible party members and 50% from public opinion polls targeting the general public.
