[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee has finalized the primary matchups for 11 metropolitan and provincial governors, including Gyeongnam, ahead of the June local elections.
From June 4 to 6, applications for the Gyeongnam governor nomination were accepted, and interviews were conducted on the 8th. Based on document screening, opinion polls for the interviews, and candidate eligibility, the final primary candidates were selected.
The current candidates for Gyeongnam governor are former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Lee Ju-young and Assemblyman Park Wan-su, who are expected to compete in a two-way race for the final nomination.
The two preliminary candidates will begin registering on the 14th and will campaign from the 15th to the 19th.
The Gyeongnam governor primary will be held from April 10 to 22, and the candidate for the June election will be confirmed on the 22nd.
The Changwon mayoral candidate will be narrowed down to 3 to 4 from 9 applicants on the 13th, and the final decision will be made on the 23rd, the day after the Gyeongnam governor candidate is confirmed.

The Nomination Committee conducted opinion polls on the 11th and held interviews for mayoral candidates at the National Assembly on the 12th. After the campaign period from the 16th to the 20th, the candidate primary will be held from the 21st to the 22nd.
Both the Gyeongnam governor and Changwon mayor candidates will be finally selected based on a 50% weighting of votes from all responsible party members and 50% from public opinion polls targeting the general public.
Voting will be conducted through the election management committee’s entrusted online voting service (K-Voting) for all responsible party members.
A Nomination Committee official stated that a TV debate will be held for party members and local voters to select a competitive candidate.
