[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jang Young-hee, former member of the Gwangju North District Council, officially announced her candidacy for Gwangju City Council at her election office on the 13th.
Candidate Jang completed her preliminary candidate registration on the 31st of last month and has now begun full-scale intra-party primary election campaigning to receive the nomination for the 6th electoral district of Buk-gu, designated as a female competitive electoral district by the Democratic Party of Korea.
Candidate Jang stated, “As a health and welfare expert, I will take full responsibility for the citizens of Gwangju to overcome the difficult times caused by COVID-19,” and added, “As a prepared local worker, I will create a happy community by carefully caring for both the children and the elderly of Gwangju.”
She also emphasized, “I am recognized as a prepared female politician through the relationships I have built with local residents while serving as a member of the Gwangju Buk-gu Council,” and said, “Since the Moon Jae-in administration, efforts have been made to strengthen local autonomy through the complete revision of the Local Autonomy Act for the first time in 32 years and two rounds of fiscal decentralization. For the future role and enhanced status of local councils, a health and welfare expert like Jang Young-hee, who has experience and capabilities developed together with residents at local sites, is needed.”
Candidate Jang is a health and welfare expert who earned a bachelor's degree in social welfare from Gwangju University, a master's degree in alternative medicine from the College of Health Sciences at Chosun University, and a doctorate in health sciences from Chosun University. She has served as ▲ Member of the Gwangju Buk-gu Council ▲ Chairperson of the Buk-gu Sponsorship Committee of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation ▲ President of the Gwangju Metropolitan Disabled Volleyball Association ▲ Co-representative of the National Council for Ethnic Harmony ▲ Branch Head of the Buk-gu Chapter of the Gwangju Saemaul Association ▲ Director of the Gwangju Buk-gu Scholarship Foundation, and currently serves as ▲ Chairwoman of the Women’s Committee of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council ▲ Director of the Lifelong Education Promotion Association.
