[New York Auto Show] Hyundai Unveils 'The New Palisade' Worldwide Premiere... Domestic Launch in May

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the first facelift model of its flagship SUV Palisade, 'The new PALISADE,' at the '2022 New York International Auto Show.' It will be launched domestically in May.

On the 13th (local time), Hyundai revealed The new Palisade at the New York Auto Show held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York, USA. As Hyundai's representative large SUV, it inherits the innovative spaciousness of the existing model while featuring a more majestic and luxurious design, along with new advanced safety and convenience features.

The wider Cascade grille seamlessly connects to the headlamps and daytime running lights (DRL), completing a strong and unified design. Additionally, a large display is applied, and convenience is enhanced with features such as 'Digital Key 2 Touch' and touch controls for the climate system. Furthermore, new advanced safety features have been added, including ▲Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) ▲Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) ▲Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R) ▲Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), and the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) has been upgraded with additional functions.

Olavishy Boil, Head of Product Planning at Hyundai Motor North America, introduced, "The new Palisade possesses the charm befitting Hyundai's flagship large SUV with new design, infotainment functions, advanced safety and convenience features, and driving performance," adding, "It is the ultimate flagship SUV model that provides comfortable value for every essential moment in life."

◆"This is Flagship" Design Differentiation

Hyundai emphasized that The new Palisade inherits the existing design of the Palisade while adding a more majestic and luxurious feel as a flagship model.

The front features a wider Cascade grille with a Parametric Shield design applied. It is also connected to the daytime running lights (DRL), giving a firmer impression. The Palisade's characteristic vertically connected DRLs have also become thicker and positioned outward to make the body appear larger. The side applies a 15mm longer overall length than the previous model. The 18-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels are differentiated with new designs.

The interior focuses on enhancing user convenience. The new Palisade comes standard with a high-definition 12.3-inch display and allows touch operation of climate functions such as air conditioning and heating, adding practicality. The main pad is designed with increased volume to give a three-dimensional feel. The newly applied mood lighting on the crash pad, along with the thin and long air vents connecting from the driver's seat to the passenger seat, is evaluated to enhance the premium feel.

The top trim, Calligraphy, offers differentiated premium features with a triangular pattern Parametric Shield, a front grille with bright chrome color, and a rear skid plate.

◆Added Various Advanced Safety and Convenience Features

Advanced safety features preferred by customers have also been strengthened. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) has added new collision avoidance functions for ▲oncoming vehicles during overtaking ▲vehicles approaching from the side ▲vehicles crossing at intersections.

In addition, new features such as ▲Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) for convenient driving on highways and expressways ▲Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) to help avoid exceeding road speed limits ▲Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R) ▲Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) have been newly installed.

Along with these, the new Digital Center Mirror (DCM) integrates a camera and room mirror, allowing the driver to switch from a simple mirror to a digital camera screen by operating a lever at the bottom, helping secure rear visibility.

The 'Ergo Motion Seat,' which reduces driver fatigue and assists stretching, is also equipped. Ventilation for the second-row bench seat and heated seats for the third row, applied for the first time by Hyundai, are also included.

The new Palisade is newly equipped with 'Digital Key 2 Touch,' which allows entry by tagging an Android or iOS-based smartphone equipped with NFC (Near Field Communication) on the outside door handle of the driver's seat without a smart key, and a built-in cam that enables video playback and file download/management through mobile device linkage.

Additionally, features such as ▲final destination guidance ▲in-vehicle simple payment ▲Car-to-Home ▲Valet Mode ▲wireless navigation updates (OTA) focus on maximizing user convenience.

◆Domestic Launch in May... Ioniq Wins 'Car of the Year' at New York Auto Show

The new Palisade, befitting Hyundai's flagship SUV, applies the electronic all-wheel-drive system 'HTRAC.' To improve driving stability, the body sides and floor have been reinforced, and sound insulation thickness increased to enhance isolation. Interior quietness and shock absorption devices have been improved to minimize vibration during high-speed driving.

In Korea, it is scheduled to be launched in May with two engine options: 2.2 diesel and 3.8 gasoline, both paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It will be released in the North American market this summer.

Hyundai has prepared an exhibition space of 3,860m2 (approximately 1,170 pyeong) at this New York Auto Show, which runs until the 24th, and plans to display a total of 17 vehicles including The new Palisade, the Veloster N TCR show car, and production models such as the Ioniq 5, Kona EV, Nexo, Santa Cruz, Tucson PHEV, Santa Fe PHEV, Kona N, and Elantra N.

Hyundai's Ioniq 5 swept three awards including the grand prize 'Car of the Year' at the World Car Awards '2022 Car of the Year' ceremony held at the New York Auto Show on the same day.
