[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A cultural event commemorating the 8th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster will be held on the 15th in front of Yangwoo Naeanae Apartments near Baegun Square in Nam-gu, Gwangju.
On the 13th, Nam-gu announced, "To mark the eighth spring since the Sewol ferry disaster, we will hold the 'Sewol Ferry Disaster 8th Anniversary Nam-gu Memory Cultural Festival' to create a memorial space where all Nam-gu residents can remember the pain of that day through solidarity."
This cultural festival will be conducted in the form of a human rights concert addressing the pain of the Sewol ferry through songs and stories.
The pre-event will begin at 5 p.m. on the 15th, featuring experiences such as attaching yellow ribbons in memory of the Sewol ferry and writing memory postcards, along with an exhibition of classroom photos showing the students who were attending high school at the time and photos of the Sewol ferry.
The memorial ceremony will continue from 6 p.m.
Residents participating in the cultural festival plan to perform a tribute by placing messages in yellow flowerpots symbolizing the Sewol ferry and offering flowers in front of the Sewol ferry sculpture.
After the performance, youths will take the memorial stage to candidly share messages expressing the pain of the Sewol ferry disaster.
The final stage of the memorial cultural festival will be filled with a human rights talk concert.
It will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:40 p.m., where human rights activists, local youths, and residents will take the stage to pledge to create a safe Republic of Korea through a human rights empathy talk and cultural performances.
Additionally, all participants will perform a flash mob to the chorus song "Truth Does Not Sink," vowing to forever keep the pain of the Sewol ferry in their hearts.
