This Preliminary Candidate Says, "We Must Not Return to the Past That Hindered Development"... Promises to Complete Hampyeong's Development to the End
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Lee Sang-ik, the mayor of Hampyeong County who declared his candidacy for the June 1 local elections, held an opening ceremony for his campaign office and began full-scale efforts to secure votes.
According to Lee Sang-ik's campaign team on the 12th, about 1,000 people, including current and former heads of institutions in Hampyeong County, county council members, representatives of various organizations and councils, and Hampyeong residents supporting the candidate, gathered in a packed crowd at the campaign office located on Yeongsu-gil in Hampyeong-eup.
In his greeting, candidate Lee Sang-ik emphasized, “When politicians and public officials start seeking the easy path, the lives of the residents become endlessly difficult,” and added, “I believe that when politicians work hard and public officials do their best, the lives of the residents become vibrant and prosperous.”
He stated, “Even in the short two-year term, we achieved results exceeding expectations with an 80.2% pledge fulfillment rate, the early achievement of the 500 billion won budget era, and the confirmed relocation of Kumho Tire’s Gwangju plant, which has begun to bring vitality to Hampyeong,” and emphasized, “With the influx of young people, revitalization of the local economy, and job creation, Hampyeong has transformed from a place people left due to lack of jobs and harsh living conditions to a place they return to, marking a groundbreaking turning point in Hampyeong’s development.”
He continued, “Building on the achievements of the 7th elected term, I will focus the next four years of the 8th elected term on the economic leap of Hampyeong by achieving the complete relocation of Kumho Tire’s Gwangju plant, establishing a hub for automatic parts production at the Bitgreen Industrial Complex, and expanding the Haebo Industrial Complex to attract excellent companies,” and added, “As hope is finally blowing through Hampyeong, we must not return to the past where development was hindered by conflict and jealousy. The person who drew the blueprint will see it through to ensure uninterrupted progress.”
Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon sent a congratulatory message, saying, “Mayor Lee Sang-ik is a valuable leader with rich experience and solid capabilities. With such experience and capabilities, he secured the attraction of large corporations to Hampyeong and firmly planned cultural, artistic, and sports infrastructure,” and expressed confidence, “Since he promised uninterrupted development of Hampyeong, I believe he will greatly contribute to the development of Hampyeong County.”
National Assembly member Kim Doo-kwan delivered a video congratulatory message, stating, “Mayor Lee Sang-ik kept his promise to revive Hampyeong’s economy even during the short two-year term and transformed Hampyeong’s industrial ecosystem,” and said, “I wish success to candidate Lee Sang-ik, who is running under the slogan ‘Confident Mayor, Solid Hampyeong.’”
National Assembly member Ahn Kyu-baek also congratulated, saying, “Candidate Lee Sang-ik is a representative entrepreneur of Hampyeong who created something out of nothing with empty hands and has demonstrated his capabilities in Hampyeong County,” and added, “I hope the residents will join candidate Lee Sang-ik on his journey to make Hampyeong vibrant and solid.”
