Operates 7 times daily from Mon to Fri, demand-responsive
Passenger ferry boarding and departure by phone reservation only
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Geoje City, Gyeongnam Province, held a test ride ceremony for the Hwado village bus in Dundeok-myeon on the 12th.
About 50 people attended the bus test ride ceremony, including Geoje Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong, local city and provincial council members, heads of organizations, and residents.
The Hwado village bus in Dundeok-myeon runs from Hwado Ferry Terminal to the villages of Yeommakpo, Myeonpo, Songpo, Waeseonpo, Songjapo, and Mipo.
It is a demand-responsive bus operating seven times a day from Monday to Friday. Usually, it runs according to the passenger ferry arrival and departure times, but at other times, it operates by phone reservation.
The fare is a flat rate of 1,000 KRW for adults, 700 KRW for middle and high school students, and 500 KRW for elementary school students, which is the same as the fares for the village buses currently operating in Geoje-myeon and Nambu-myeon.
According to the city, Hwado Village, which was classified as a transportation-disadvantaged area, did not guarantee the mobility rights of island residents, and residents had many difficulties moving to the ferry terminal to travel outside.
A city official said, "We expect it will be much more convenient when Hwado residents and tourists move around."
Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong said, "I am very pleased to be able to alleviate some of the transportation inconveniences experienced by residents," and added, "We will do our best to improve citizens' transportation welfare so that there are no transportation-disadvantaged areas throughout Geoje City."
