More Candidates Expected to Be Excluded After Thorough Verification
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] The Democratic Party of Korea Jeonnam Provincial Party's Public Office Election Candidate Recommendation Management Committee announced a list of candidates excluded from nomination, including incumbent heads of local governments such as Kim San, Mayor of Muan County, and Yoo Doo-seok, Mayor of Jangseong County.
The Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Party announced the results of the screening conducted from yesterday until 3:30 a.m. today through the 3rd and 4th briefing sessions of the Candidate Recommendation Committee on the afternoon of the 12th.
Among the candidates for basic local government heads, four candidates including two incumbents were excluded from nomination in the first round; 11 candidates for metropolitan councilors and one candidate for basic councilor (unverified candidate) were also excluded.
Among 138 applicants for metropolitan councilor candidates, excluding six unverified candidates, 11 out of 132 were excluded from nomination.
The list of excluded local government head candidates includes Gam San, Mayor of Muan County; Yoo Doo-seok, Mayor of Jangseong County; Kim Jeong-wook, applicant for Mayor of Suncheon; and Kim Seon-yong, Mayor of Naju.
The reasons for exclusion include the Ethics Tribunal's investigation into candidates' fathers, criminal records, sexual misconduct, drunk driving, and real estate speculation.
The provincial party plans to resume detailed verification and screening of basic councilor candidates from 1 p.m. today (the 12th) and will announce the list again.
Also, the number of excluded candidates for basic local government heads, metropolitan councilors, and basic councilors is expected to increase as there are candidates whose screening has been deferred for detailed verification.
Regarding objections to this screening result, candidates who received notification of the screening results may file objections within 48 hours: basic local government head candidates to the Democratic Party Central Party, and metropolitan and basic councilor candidates to the Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Party.
