People Power Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party 591 Members Announce Candidacy for June Local Elections

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The People Power Party's Gyeongnam Provincial Party Committee received 591 applications for candidacy in the nationwide local elections scheduled for June.


There are 94 candidates for basic local government heads, 122 for regional district metropolitan council members, 9 for proportional representation metropolitan council members, 308 for regional district basic council members, and 58 for proportional representation basic council members.


According to the provincial party committee, the competition ratios were 5.22:1 for basic local government heads, 2.34:1 for regional district metropolitan council members, 1.5:1 for proportional representation metropolitan council members, 1.36:1 for regional district basic council members, and 1.61:1 for proportional representation basic council members.


Among them, 484 applicants were male and 107 were female, with 548 applicants aged 45 or older and 43 under 45.


Applicants for metropolitan and basic council member nominations will take the Basic Qualification Evaluation (PPAT) on the 17th.


The exam will be held simultaneously from 11 a.m. for one hour at test centers in 17 cities and provinces nationwide.


They must answer 30 questions across 8 subjects in the areas of ▲Basic competency for public office duties (Party Constitution, Party Rules, Public Official Election Act) ▲Analysis and judgment evaluation (data interpretation, situational judgment) ▲Current issue analysis ability (North Korea policy, diplomacy and security, safety and society, youth policy, local autonomy).


The evaluation will be conducted on an absolute grading basis, and candidates running in regional districts for basic and metropolitan council positions will receive up to a 10% bonus proportional to their evaluation scores.


Proportional representation metropolitan council candidates must score at least 70 points, and proportional representation basic council candidates must score at least 60 points to be eligible for nomination screening.


The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee announced that the metropolitan government head candidate selection primary will be conducted in two phases.


The primaries for Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam regions will be held from the 19th to the 20th, and for Incheon, Ulsan, Gyeonggi, and Gyeongnam regions from the 20th to the 21st.


Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, and Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo, whose nominations were confirmed by the party's Supreme Council resolution, will proceed directly to the general election without a primary.
