Gwangju Mayor Shin Dongheon Declares Bid for Re-election in June Local Elections Shin Dongheon, the mayor of Gwangju City, has declared his intention to run for re-election in the local elections this June.


[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Shin Dong-heon, mayor of Gwangju City, officially announced his candidacy for re-election in the simultaneous local elections this June.


On the morning of the 11th, Mayor Shin held a press conference at Gallery 2 of Namhansanseong Art Hall, stating, "I will revive the local economy collapsing due to the aftermath of COVID-19 and prepare Gwangju for the post-COVID era."


He continued, "Although I have made relentless efforts to respond to citizens' demands, my heart ached at the reality of Gwangju suffering from various regulations and indiscriminate development," explaining the background of his re-election bid. "Now is the time to present the path forward for Gwangju and to do our best to create the Gwangju of our dreams."


Mayor Shin reflected on his seventh term in office, saying, "To answer the citizens' call to 'do it right,' I wore sneakers instead of dress shoes and jackets instead of suits, traveling all over Gwangju for the past four years."


He emphasized the necessity of continuous administration, saying, "For seamless and stable governance and for the dream of the proud millennium city of Gwangju, I will once again tighten my sneaker laces and run solely for Gwangju."


Mayor Shin plans to register as a preliminary candidate soon and hold a press conference to present specific pledges and visions.
