Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station, Spring Wildfire Prevention Patrol

Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station, Spring Wildfire Prevention Patrol

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Bukbu Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City will conduct preventive patrols until the 17th to prevent forest and woodland fires caused by careless acts such as playing with fire and burning trash during the dry spring weather.

April is a period when forest fires of various sizes frequently occur nationwide due to factors such as an increase in hikers visiting mountains because of warm weather, dry conditions, and strong winds. Therefore, activities such as preventive patrols are being promoted to prevent fires and establish a rapid initial response system.

The main focus includes ▲strengthening preventive patrols and forest fire prevention publicity in areas adjacent to forests ▲maintaining and verifying cooperation systems and emergency contact networks among related organizations ▲educating residents of villages near forests on how to use emergency fire extinguishing devices ▲establishing an on-site response system for rapid initial response.

In particular, the volunteer fire brigade’s preventive patrols of forest-adjacent areas, conducted once daily at 29 locations by 24 members divided into 8 teams, are efficiently carried out by combining foot patrols with drone use, thanks to the talent donation of volunteer firefighters skilled in drone operation.

Lee Dong-young, Chief of the Bukbu Fire Station, said, “As this is a period when forest fires of various sizes occur nationwide, both fire service personnel and volunteer firefighters will thoroughly perform their respective duties and devote all efforts to forest fire prevention activities.”
