Daegu Regional Environmental Office, 'Campus Eco Leader' Goes! ... Spreading Eco-Friendly Culture on Campus The 12th Campus Eco Leaders were selected from Kyungpook National University, Keimyung University, Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Daegu National University of Education, Dongguk University (Gyeongju), and Yeungnam University, with a total of 8 teams (40 members).

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Daegu Regional Environmental Office held the inauguration ceremony for the 12th term of the ‘Campus Eco-Leader’ on the 8th at the Government Daegu Regional Joint Office.

The Campus Eco-Leader program, co-hosted by the Daegu Regional Environmental Office and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Green Environment Support Center since 2011, consists of university students from the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas aiming to spread eco-friendly lifestyle culture on campuses. So far, 817 students from 140 teams have participated.

This year, the 12th term Campus Eco-Leaders were selected from six local universities (Kyungpook National University, Keimyung University, Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Daegu National University of Education, Dongguk University (Gyeongju), and Yeungnam University), with a total of 8 teams (40 students). The students come from diverse majors such as education, business administration, and accounting and taxation, reflecting the growing interest among the younger generation in eco-friendly lifestyles, including recent environmental issues like carbon neutrality.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the 12th term Campus Eco-Leaders, officials from the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Green Environment Support Center. The event included the awarding of team appointment certificates, presentations of annual activity plans, and sharing of know-how by the 11th term senior Eco-Leaders.

Through the teams’ main activity plans, fresh ideas from young university students were evident, ranging from producing eco calendars and delivering environmental information and issues via environmental radio, to distributing eco fonts to reduce carbon emissions and promoting vegan cooking campaigns.

Choi Jong-won, head of the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, said, “The various activities of the Campus Eco-Leaders are expected to greatly contribute to spreading eco-friendly living and practical culture within universities and raising awareness of environmental issues among local residents.”
