[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Jung-wan] Yoon Ho-jung, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol on the 11th, saying he is "pathetically hopeless."
In an interview with Yonhap News released that day, Chairman Yoon said regarding the one-month anniversary of President-elect Yoon's election, "Really, is this how you spend a month? There are two months until the inauguration, but he actually spent half of that time on himself, that is, on the president-elect himself."
He added, "There was no communication with the people, and it was a one-way communication of non-communication," and "He wasted a month on the issue of the presidential office, which is truly pathetic."
Regarding the controversy within the party over the Seoul mayoral nomination, known as the 'Lee Sim (李心)' issue, Chairman Yoon said, "If it is judged that there is no winning card, there may be other decisions by the leadership," and "Strategic nominations are also possible."
Chairman Yoon said, "Each candidate who applied for the nomination is a core asset of the party," but added, "Since there are only about 50 days left until the election, this is a time to verify whether they can be a winning card for this election and to evaluate their competitiveness."
He said, "Despite the defeat in the presidential election, I hope to lead the June 1 local elections to victory," and "At least, the goal is to win in Seoul and Gyeonggi, that is, the metropolitan area."
Earlier, former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil stated at a press conference the day before, "Everyone may have different thoughts about my candidacy," but insisted, "Since the official recruitment process was conducted according to the party's rules and regulations, the primary should proceed accordingly."
