CJ CheilJedang Feed and Livestock Corporation Completes Vietnam Meat Processing Plant Construction

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ Feedcare, an independent subsidiary of CJ CheilJedang specializing in feed and livestock, announced on the 11th that it held a completion ceremony for the 'CJ Gucci Refrigerated Meat Factory' in Gucci District, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

CJ Feedcare, the second-largest company in Vietnam based on the number of pigs (fattening pigs) raised, has strengthened its business competitiveness by covering the entire value chain from pig feed, livestock, to meat processing with the completion of this meat processing plant.

The factory spans approximately 1,300㎡ and is equipped with advanced meat processing facilities and cold chain systems including refrigerated and frozen warehouses. Through this factory, CJ Feedcare will produce refrigerated and fresh meat products under the Vietnamese meat processing brand 'Meat Master,' launched in 2020. The production capacity is about 8,200 tons annually, which is ten times higher compared to before the factory's operation.

Vietnam ranks third worldwide in per capita pork consumption after China and the European Union (EU), and the overall meat market in Vietnam, including beef, is estimated to be worth over 20 trillion KRW.

CJ CheilJedang stated, "Although meat distribution in Vietnam is mainly centered around traditional markets, the increase in national income and growing interest in safe food are expected to rapidly increase demand for cold chain products that have undergone Feedcare's strict quality control."

CJ Feedcare plans to expand the distribution channels for Meat Master products based on the stable supply produced at the new factory.

By the end of this year, the company aims to enter major large supermarkets and about 1,000 retail stores in Vietnam, and to open around 200 franchise-type butcher shops called 'CJ Pork Shop' in the traditional market sector.
