[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Donghyun] Bodyfriend, a manufacturer of massage chairs, announced on the 11th that it ranked 27th in the first quarter of this year in the "Top 100 Brands of Korea" evaluation announced by Brandstock, a brand value evaluation agency.
The Top 100 Brands of Korea is a brand value certification system that selects and announces the top 100 brands with high BSTI (Brand Stock Top Index) scores, a brand value evaluation model. Bodyfriend was first selected for this certification in 2016.
Bodyfriend ranked first among healthcare brands. It outperformed large corporations and global brands such as Coway (35th), LG Whisen (28th), iPhone (29th), Samsung Life Insurance (43rd), and Facebook (48th). This is believed to be influenced by increased interest in health management due to COVID-19 and the aging society. Riding this momentum, Bodyfriend also recorded its highest-ever performance last year.
Bodyfriend is dedicated to developing new healthcare technologies with the goal of "extending human healthy lifespan by 10 years." This is being carried out mainly through three integrated research organizations: the Technology Research Institute, the Design Research Institute, and the Medical R&D Center. In particular, the Medical R&D Center, staffed with specialists in oriental rehabilitation medicine, family medicine, orthopedics, and other fields, is proving the correlation between massage chairs and health and developing related technologies. Through clinical trials, it has created Bodyfriend's unique technologies such as "sleep massage" and "mental massage."
A Bodyfriend official stated, "Being selected as one of the Top 100 Brands of Korea for seven consecutive years is the result of showcasing unique technologies and healthcare products by investing 80 billion KRW in research and development over the past five years through the Medical R&D Center, Technology Research Institute, and Design Research Institute." He added, "Over the next five years, we plan to invest more than 100 billion KRW in R&D to evolve massage chairs into 'healthcare robots' through the convergence of IoT and AI technologies."
