SK E&S, Paju Energy Service Receives 'Zero Waste Purchase' Certification

SK E&S, Paju Energy Service Receives 'Zero Waste Purchase' Certification Paju Natural Gas Power Plant operated by Paju Energy Service, a subsidiary of SK E&S

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] SK E&S announced on the 11th that its subsidiary Paju Energy Service has become the first domestic power generation company to obtain the 'Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL)' certification from UL, a safety and environmental certification specialist.

ZWTL is a certification system that evaluates a company's level of resource recycling, awarding grades based on the proportion of waste generated at the business site that is reused as resources instead of being landfilled. SK affiliates such as SK Hynix and SK Siltron, as well as Samsung Electronics and LG Innotek, have previously obtained ZWTL certification.

Paju Energy Service received the ZWTL certification 'Gold' grade in recognition of its 99% waste recycling rate at the currently operating Paju Natural Gas Power Plant. It is an LNG combined cycle power plant consisting of two 900 MW-class power generation units.

Dehydration cake, a type of contaminated sediment generated after wastewater treatment, is being recycled for use as cover material or in the manufacture of paving blocks. Paju Energy Service plans to increase the recycling rate to 100% in the future to achieve zero waste landfill.

SK E&S actively practices ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by participating in various global initiatives for sustainable management. In November last year, it also joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) supporters.

Goo Hyun-seo, Head of ESG Division at SK E&S, stated, "We will strengthen ESG management not only by recycling waste within our business sites but also by leading carbon neutrality, fulfilling our role as a responsible energy company."
