[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] North Korea held a central reporting meeting on the 10th to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong-un's official assumption of power.
Korean Central TV reported that "the central reporting meeting celebrating the 10th anniversary of Comrade Kim Jong-un being highly elevated to the highest position of our Party and State was held at the 4.25 Cultural Hall in Pyongyang."
Choe Ryong-hae, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, praised in his report at the meeting, "The General Secretary Comrade presented a new parallel development line and blazed a path of bloody pioneering, ultimately realizing the historic great cause of completing the country's nuclear armed forces."
He continued, "The past 10 years have been days when the powerful potential and indomitable march spirit of our country, which has firmly grasped the revolutionary line of self-reliance and opened the path to prosperity through its own strength, have been powerfully confirmed."
He also asserted, "Our people proudly call this glorious era, in which the long-cherished wish for a strong nation has been fulfilled and the great cause of building a prosperous and powerful country is being achieved, the Great Kim Jong-un Era."
Chairman Kim assumed power when he was appointed Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army on December 30, 2011, following the death of Chairman Kim Jong-il in December of the same year. His official assumption of power began on April 11 of the following year with his appointment as the First Secretary of the Workers' Party, and on April 13 with his appointment as the First Chairman of the National Defense Commission.
