Korea Forest Service Deploys Helicopters, Equipment Vehicles, and Personnel... Difficulties in Firefighting Due to Strong Winds

A forest fire occurred in the area of 133-1 Songcheong-ri, Yanggu-eup, Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do [Korea Forest Service]

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] On the 10th, amid strong winds and dry weather, wildfires broke out in various hillsides across Gangwon-do, prompting forestry and firefighting authorities to put all their efforts into extinguishing the fires.

At 3:40 PM that day, a wildfire occurred in the hillside of Songcheong-ri, Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do, leading the Korea Forest Service to issue a 'Wildfire Level 1' alert.

According to the Korea Forest Service, as of 4:30 PM, a 'Wildfire Level 1' alert was issued, and seven firefighting helicopters and about 50 personnel were deployed to extinguish the fire.

At the wildfire site, strong winds blowing at 10 meters per second are accelerating the spread of the fire, raising concerns about damage to residential areas.

Yanggu-gun sent disaster alert messages urging residents to evacuate to safe locations. Additionally, the jurisdictional helicopters, nearby institution helicopters, and firefighting personnel were mobilized to the maximum extent to combat the wildfire.

The Central Wildfire Prevention Headquarters stated, "We are mobilizing firefighting personnel and equipment to swiftly extinguish the fire and will do our best to put out the wildfire without any safety accidents."

Earlier, around 12:47 PM, a fire broke out in the hillside of Wonam-ri, Goseong-gun, where two firefighting helicopters, 17 firefighting equipment vehicles, and about 80 personnel were deployed to extinguish the fire.

At the wildfire site, winds blowing at 14.3 meters per second are causing difficulties in firefighting efforts.

Around the same time, a fire also broke out in the hillside near Sangseo-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, where three firefighting helicopters and about 100 personnel were dispatched, and the fire was extinguished around 3:30 PM.

The forestry authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fires and the extent of the damage.
