[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Lee Yong-seop, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, opened his election office, 'Saram Camp.'
On the 9th, the candidate held an opening ceremony at the election office in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, with about 5,000 attendees from political and economic circles.
Former Prime Ministers Lee Hae-chan and Lee Nak-yeon, former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin, Gwangju Global Motors CEO Park Kwang-tae, NHN Cloud CEO Kim Dong-hoon, and others either attended in person or sent congratulatory video messages.
The candidate said, “Gwangju’s development must not stop here. With the urgent need to achieve a regime change in five years, we opened ‘Saram Camp’ together with the citizens. We will repay the support of everyone who joined Saram Camp, which centers on the values of justice and human dignity, by completing a ‘bigger and stronger Gwangju.’ The citizens’ earnest desire for Gwangju’s development will be a great driving force for a new history and hopeful future of Gwangju.”
Attendees at the opening ceremony highly praised the many historic achievements of the 7th local government term led by candidate Lee Yong-seop as mayor of Gwangju over the past four years and unanimously emphasized the need for uninterrupted development of Gwangju.
Former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan sent a congratulatory message, saying, “Congratulations on the opening of Lee Yong-seop’s election office for uninterrupted development of Gwangju, a bigger and stronger Gwangju, and a Gwangju that is a land of people.”
Former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon sent a congratulatory video, stating, “Mayor Lee Yong-seop has led the successful implementation of the Gwangju-type jobs program nationwide for the first time through his rich experience, solid capabilities, and insightful preparation for the future, including the inclusion of the Moonlight High-Speed Railway in the national railway network plan and the promotion of a carbon-neutral energy self-sufficient city. I always hope Gwangju grows into a bigger and more attractive city.”
Former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun said, “While other local governments focused on SOC projects, only Gwangju chose artificial intelligence. Jobs and the future of Korea depend on AI City Gwangju. The projects AI City Gwangju has pursued so far must continue to be well promoted for Gwangju and Korea.”
National Assembly member Park Yong-jin supported Gwangju’s confident steps, saying, “Gwangju is providing opportunities to youth and gathering new energy through the Youth Policy Office and Youth Advisor System.”
Kim Dong-hoon, CEO of NHN Cloud, the operator of the National AI Data Center being built in Gwangju, said, “I am confident that Gwangju can grow beyond Korea’s Silicon Valley into a world-class artificial intelligence city.” Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin, a brother city in the Moonlight Alliance, and Park Kwang-tae, CEO of Gwangju Global Motors, which produces the popular Casper car, conveyed messages of congratulations for the opening of Saram Camp and for uninterrupted development of Gwangju.
Meanwhile, the candidate’s Saram Camp appointed Kim Yeon-ja, a national singer known as the queen of trot, as its promotional ambassador.
Kim Yeon-ja, who is from Gwangju, recently released the song ‘Mujogeon Gwangjuro’ (Unconditionally to Gwangju), which has received great love from Gwangju citizens. ‘Mujogeon Gwangjuro’ was created by the ‘Gwangju Song Establishment Committee,’ consisting of 20 figures from Gwangju’s cultural, artistic, economic, legal, and medical fields, who held a lyrics contest. The production costs were covered by donations collected from citizens. The lyrics were written by Ji Hyung-won, CEO of Munhwa Tong, and the music was composed by Gong Jeong-sik, a writer from Hwasun.
