Eunpyeong-gu Holds Final Feasibility Study Report Meeting for New Sinsagogae Station on Goyang Eunpyeong Line... Economic Efficiency and Benefits Increase Across Entire Goyang Eunpyeong Line with New Station Establishment
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) held the "Pre-Feasibility Study Final Report Meeting for the Establishment of Sinsagogae Station on the Goyang Eunpyeong Line" on the 8th.
The district announced that the feasibility study results evaluated that establishing Sinsagogae Station would increase benefits and economic efficiency across the entire Goyang Eunpyeong Line.
Reconfirming the results of the interim report meeting held in January, the project has received a green light for promotion.
The Sinsa-dong area in Eunpyeong-gu has experienced habitual traffic congestion on sections such as Gajwa-ro and Susaek·Jeungsan-ro due to increased traffic volume from large-scale housing developments in Goyang City. With the creation of Changneung New Town, which will accommodate about 100,000 people, even more severe traffic congestion is anticipated.
Accordingly, the district commissioned the "Pre-Feasibility Study for the Establishment of Sinsagogae Station on the Goyang Eunpyeong Line" to promote balanced development of the 3rd phase Changneung New Town and improve residents' mobility through railway network expansion.
According to the analysis by the Seoul City University Industry-Academic Research Group, future large-scale development projects around the planned new station site and the connection with the Western Line light rail will increase travel demand, and the addition of Sinsagogae Station is expected to enhance the economic efficiency of the entire Goyang Eunpyeong Line.
Additional benefits include the projection that the number of administrative districts within a 30-minute commuting zone from Changneung District will increase from 11 to 72 with the establishment of the Goyang Eunpyeong Line and Sinsagogae Station.
Experts also foresee that total benefits will further increase when estimating demand from future development plans such as Jeungsan 4 District, Yeonsinnae Station, and Susaek·DMC Station.
Previously, related organizations predicted that securing sufficient economic feasibility would be difficult because the planned site for Sinsagogae Station is close to Saejeol Station and there is little large-scale traffic-inducing demand nearby. However, the final feasibility study results have strengthened support for the additional establishment of Sinsagogae Station.
Earlier, in 2019, the district delivered a petition signed by 300,000 residents requesting the establishment of Sinsagogae Station between Saejeol Station and Hyangdong Station on the Goyang Eunpyeong Line to Seoul City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, among others, demonstrating efforts to establish Sinsagogae Station.
On the 22nd of last month, the district visited the Gyeonggi Provincial Government to request cooperation to include Sinsagogae Station in the ongoing "Feasibility Evaluation and Basic Plan Establishment Study for the Goyang Eunpyeong Line Metropolitan Railway" currently being prepared for commissioning.
The Goyang Eunpyeong Line is a metropolitan urban railway connecting Saejeol Station on Line 6 to Changneung New Town and Goyang City Hall. It passed the preliminary feasibility study for public institutions last July and is scheduled for completion in 2029.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, "Since the recent study confirmed that establishing Sinsagogae Station will sufficiently secure benefits and economic feasibility, we will continuously consult with related organizations to ensure it is reflected in Gyeonggi Province's railway basic plan study."
