[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A petition has been raised to revoke the decision to cancel the admission of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk's daughter to the Busan National University Medical School.

Recently, a post titled "Busan National University must revoke the cancellation of admission of former Minister Cho Kuk's daughter to the Medical School" was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition Board. As of 5:40 PM on the 9th, this petition had received over 34,000 signatures.

The petitioner argued that Busan National University's decision was wrong, calling it "news that brings sorrow and despair to many." They stated, "The reason for the cancellation of admission is not valid," and added, "Even conceding a hundred times, if we refute the exact sentences based on Busan National University's official press release, Cho's certificate of commendation is not false."

They also said, "If Busan National University intended to judge the certificate of commendation as a matter for admission cancellation, they should have used the university's authority and discretion to directly investigate the authenticity of the certificate."

Furthermore, they stated, "The Supreme Court ruling cited by Busan National University as grounds is a social issue that should be reconsidered under public scrutiny," and "The rule of law in our country has not yet been fully recognized in its purity by the entire nation."

They mentioned numerous petitions condemning the court that confirmed the illegality of forgery of certificates by former Dongyang University professor Jeong Gyeongshim, wife of former Minister Cho Kuk, as one example.

Additionally, the petitioner criticized, "Busan National University committed the error of judging only one case that was in the media rather than making efforts to ensure fairness by conducting a full investigation of all admitted students," and "It has been historically judged that the university abandoned its original identity and made a political judgment." They added, "The only way to correct this is to revoke the judgment against Cho."

Earlier, on the 5th, Busan National University held a faculty meeting and decided to cancel Cho's admission to the 2015 academic year Medical School. The grounds for cancellation included university regulations, the 2015 Medical School admission guidelines, and the Framework Act on Administrative Procedures.

Cho's side filed a suspension of execution against this decision. On the same day, former Minister Cho posted a press release issued by his legal representative on his Facebook, stating, "According to Busan National University's own investigation report, the career and certificate of commendation in question did not affect the admission." He added, "Canceling admission and consequently invalidating the medical license based on career entries that had no impact on the admission decision is an excessively harsh punishment for the applicant."
