Demand Survey for Support Projects to be Conducted by the 12th
First Half Traffic Volume Survey for Loss Compensation Support
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do is conducting a demand survey for the support project of remote area routes, which is being operated to improve transportation convenience and guarantee mobility rights for residents in rural and fishing villages, until the 12th.
The remote area route support project is a transportation welfare system designed to guarantee the mobility rights of local residents by issuing improvement orders and compensating losses for bus routes in remote and isolated areas where bus operators avoid operation due to decreased profitability.
Gyeongnam Province currently designates and operates 552 routes covering 4,400.1 km of remote area routes, expanding by 29 routes and 277 km compared to last year.
By surveying the demand for remote area routes, the province plans to apply for the 2023 budget from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and improve transportation welfare for residents living in remote and isolated areas.
To ensure transparency in loss compensation support for remote area routes and objectively analyze bus usage status, a traffic volume survey for remote area routes will be conducted from April 18 to May 22 in the first half of the year.
Seok Wook-hee, Director of the Transportation Policy Division, said, “In the aging rural areas, remote area route buses are a reliable means of transportation for residents,” adding, “We will continue to guarantee transportation convenience and mobility rights for local residents and eliminate blind spots in public transportation to provide better transportation welfare.”
