[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk is driving the great success of the ImsilN Cheese Festival and is starting full-scale cultivation to create chrysanthemum landscapes, which are the top contributors to sightseeing attractions.
The county announced on the 8th that from this month, it will begin cultivating colorful chrysanthemums to be exhibited at the ImsilN Cheese Festival venue, selected as Jeonbuk Province's representative festival, and to decorate Bungeo Island in Okjeongho, which boasts a natural scenic beauty.
The cultivation of chrysanthemums began as an idea from the 6th elected Imsil county governor.
At that time, the Imsil county governor ordered, "Let's cultivate and exhibit chrysanthemums, the heralds of autumn loved by many people, at the ImsilN Cheese Festival venue."
Since then, from the 6th to the 7th elected terms over eight years, more than ten million chrysanthemums have been exhibited at the Imsil Cheese Theme Park in line with the festival period.
The chrysanthemum landscapes produced and exhibited directly by the Agricultural Technology Center provide sightseeing and healing to tourists visiting the ImsilN Cheese Festival venue, becoming a key factor in the festival's great success, which attracts 400,000 to 500,000 visitors annually.
Until last year, the 7th ImsilN Cheese Festival was selected as an excellent festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and as Jeonbuk Province's representative festival, growing into a festival that truly represents South Korea.
Moreover, even when the festival was canceled or held online due to COVID-19 over the past two years, the chrysanthemum landscapes were still exhibited, soothing the minds and bodies of many tourists exhausted by COVID-19 and greatly contributing to making the Imsil Cheese Theme Park a nationwide chrysanthemum tourism attraction.
This year, the county plans to produce and exhibit even more perfected chrysanthemum landscapes at the 8th ImsilN Cheese Festival venue.
This year, ahead of the opening of the suspension bridge to Bungeo Island in Okjeongho, a natural tourist spot in Imsil-gun, next month, chrysanthemums for Bungeo Island will also be cultivated.
Starting in October, the county plans to exhibit chrysanthemums mainly along the Bungeo Island exploration trail to enhance the satisfaction of tourists visiting Bungeo Island and foster Okjeongho Bungeo Island as a representative tourist destination in South Korea.
A county official said, "Despite difficult conditions such as COVID-19 last year, about 520,000 tourists visited the Cheese Theme Park through the creation of chrysanthemum landscapes, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the tourism industry and local economy," adding, "This year as well, we will pay special attention to chrysanthemum cultivation for the successful hosting of the ImsilN Cheese Festival and for many tourists visiting Okjeongho Bungeo Island."
