The Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced on the 8th that they have sent social service worker A (24) from a private special school in Buk-gu to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities Act.
According to the police, A is accused of strangling B, a special school student with level 1 brain lesion disability and level 1 cognitive disability, with a towel around the neck and assaulting the abdomen and face from October to December last year.
Investigations revealed that A assaulted B due to stress experienced during the care of the disabled person.
This fact came to light when another social service worker at the school reported it to the school authorities.
During the school's internal investigation, six other service workers besides A testified that they witnessed the assault, and after B's parents filed a complaint, the police investigation began.
