Grand Prize in International Marine Tourism Resort City Category, Ranked 1st in Competitiveness Index Comprehensive Evaluation
Selected Consecutively for Korea Tourism 100 and 25 Safe Tourism Destinations... Expected Recovery of Slumped Tourism Demand
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do has won the ‘Korea National Brand Award’ for seven consecutive years.
The city announced that it was selected as the first place in the ‘International Marine Tourism and Leisure City category’ and received the ‘Grand Prize’ at the awards ceremony held on the 6th at Lotte Hotel in Seoul.
The ‘Korea National Brand Award’ is a prestigious award hosted by the New York Festival, one of the world’s top three advertising festivals, which selects the best national brands in Korea by evaluating competitiveness indices by category.
The National Brand Competitiveness Index (NCI) is calculated based on consumer evaluations of indicators such as ▲brand awareness ▲representativeness ▲satisfaction ▲loyalty ▲global competitiveness ▲overall favorability.
Yeosu City received a total score of 77.01 points in the International Marine Tourism and Leisure City category, surpassing several cities including Sinan, Namhae, Wando, and Geoje to take first place.
In particular, with the upcoming hosting of the ‘2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo,’ Yeosu City’s seven consecutive grand prize wins are evaluated as recognition as Korea’s top marine tourism and leisure city in name and reality.
The city analyzed that the recovery of tourism demand, which had been stagnant due to COVID-19, led many tourists nationwide to visit Yeosu, as ‘Odongdo and Yeosu World Expo Site’ were selected for the Korea Tourism 100 four consecutive times, and ‘Jangdo’ and ‘Hwahwa Island’ were selected as 25 safe tourism destinations in summer and autumn of 2021.
The city plans to respond proactively to changes in tourism trends and further enhance Yeosu’s charm as a sustainable tourism city through new content development and marketing strategies.
Na Byeong-gon, Director of the Tourism Culture and Education Bureau, said, “We have once again proven the brand power of Yeosu City, Korea’s representative marine tourism and leisure city,” adding, “We will continue to lead domestic marine tourism trends by revitalizing island tourism represented by Yeosu Seomseom-gil, developing wellness and ontact tourism, and creating a global smart tourism city.”
