[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has created a ‘Healing Quote Photo Zone’ around the Achasan Donghaeng Forest Trail hiking path.

The ‘Healing Quote Photo Zone’ was established to soothe the hearts of residents tired from COVID-19 and provide a place to rest, selecting quotes themed around ‘walking together, cheering, and resting.’

The photo zones are installed in two types: bench-style and stand-style, with a total of 10 locations along the Donghaeng Forest Trail.

For the bench-style, phrases such as ‘The energy of Achasan to [ ]’ and ‘Beautiful Donghaeng Forest Trail with you [ ]’ are engraved on the benches, with the brackets designed for visitors to step in and be captured in photos.

The stand-style features encouraging phrases like ‘Let’s live with a smile,’ ‘Don’t worry, you’re doing well,’ and ‘It’s okay to take a break.’

Jo Ju-hee (27, Jayang-dong), who visited Achasan Donghaeng Forest Trail, said, “It’s great just to walk the Donghaeng Forest Trail where you can enjoy nature in the city, and the addition of photo zones where you can take memorable shots has doubled the attractions. As the weather is getting warmer, I hope many people come to rest here.”

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We created the Healing Quote Photo Zone around the newly established Achasan Donghaeng Forest Trail last year to provide attractions for hikers. I hope residents exhausted from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic find strength by seeing encouraging quotes and enjoying nature on the trail.”

Additionally, the district is promoting special performances every Saturday at Achasan Eoullim Square to add more attractions to Achasan, and plans to open the ‘Achasan Forest Library’ in June this year.

On the morning of the 8th, Cha Hyeon-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, installed barricades with staff at the entrance of the cherry blossom path on the south end of Seogang Bridge in Yeouido to block vehicle access.

Yeongdeungpo-gu will partially open the Yeouiseo-ro spring flower path from the south end of Seogang Bridge to the Assembly Hall intersection from April 9 to 17. From noon on the 8th, one day before the opening, until noon on the 18th, vehicle traffic will be completely restricted.

Mayor Cha inspected the traffic control site, safety facilities, and the situation room on that day, urging related staff to maintain basic order and thorough quarantine management to ensure a safe and pleasant walking path.

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is accelerating efforts to achieve ‘carbon neutrality,’ where carbon emissions and absorption balance out to zero.

On the 8th, the district held the ‘2050 Gangseo-gu Carbon Neutral Green Growth Basic Plan Establishment Final Report Meeting’ in the district office’s main conference room, attended by Mayor Noh Hyun-song and project stakeholders.

At the meeting, the Gyeonggi Industrial Research Institute, which conducted the study, presented plans for 34 projects across six sectors after analyzing local conditions including natural environment, socio-cultural environment, and industrial environment.

Notably, a prior survey on climate change awareness was conducted with about 1,000 residents to set project directions suited to local characteristics.

The six sectors presented were buildings, transportation, green spaces, energy, waste, and daily life practices. Detailed projects include ▲creating a sustainable eco-friendly smart city ▲expanding electric vehicle distribution ▲forest care projects with residents ▲expanding renewable energy distribution ▲zero direct landfill of household waste ▲activating resident participation energy-saving programs, among 34 projects.

The district plans to prepare a basic plan for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 based on the results of this study.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “This meeting is significant as it prepared greenhouse gas reduction measures reflecting the district’s characteristics. I ask all departments to take interest and collaborate to ensure that the mid- to long-term plans for realizing carbon-neutral Gangseo proceed smoothly.”
