Dongwha Pharm Selects Kim Im, Director of Neurology and Psychiatry Clinic, as Recipient of 'Yoon Do-jun Medical Award'

Director of Kim Im Neurology and Psychiatry Clinic, selected as the recipient of the 7th 'Yoon Do-jun Medical Award'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Dongwha Pharmaceutical announced on the 8th that the director of Kim Im Psychiatric Clinic, Kim Im, was selected as the recipient of the 7th ‘Yun Do-jun Medical Award,’ jointly established with the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association.

Director Kim was honored for her contributions to infection prevention projects, medical volunteer work, and mental health healing in medically underserved areas both domestically and internationally for over half a century. She began volunteering in medical service in 1964 through a medical volunteer club and has continued her service activities for 55 years. In the early days, she focused on infection prevention and hygiene management activities such as parasite eradication projects, toilet improvements, and handwashing campaigns. From her senior years in medical school, she provided medical benefits by visiting rural and remote areas, including islands and fishing villages in Korea. She also visited many overseas countries in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and Africa, where medical infrastructure was lacking, spreading advanced medical care through infection prevention activities, medical volunteer work, and mental health lectures.

Since 1972, she has been involved with ‘Jangmihoe,’ an organization dedicated to the treatment and welfare of epilepsy patients, providing free medical care to epilepsy patients in the local community for over 40 years. She has also continuously conducted mental health lectures and individual and group therapy on topics such as mental health treatment for victims of sexual violence, school violence, and domestic violence, as well as suicide, addiction, stress, communication issues between couples and children, and crisis management. In addition, she has actively participated in social activities such as Lifeline, Domestic Violence Counseling Center, Family Legal Counseling Center, and Neighbors’ Love Medical Society.

Director Kim said, “The past 55 years have been a grateful time to practice service and sharing through medical skills,” adding, “I will continue to fulfill my duties with a sense of mission as a doctor, delivering love and hope where help is needed.”

The Yun Do-jun Medical Award was established in 2016 by Yun Do-jun, chairman of Dongwha Pharmaceutical, together with the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association to honor members who have contributed to the development of domestic psychiatry. Chairman Yun is a neurologist and psychiatrist who served as head of the Department of Psychiatry at Kyung Hee University Medical School and as chief professor of the Department of Neuropsychiatry.
