Collection of Firefighting Artifacts for the Establishment of the National Fire Museum
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The Jeollabuk-do Fire Headquarters (Chief Choi Min-cheol) announced on the 8th that it is conducting a campaign to collect and donate firefighting relics for the establishment of the National Fire Museum in 2024.
This campaign began in 2021 to discover and preserve historical materials to be exhibited in the museum by finding firefighting-related relics hidden in various places.
In 2021, a total of 151 items were donated, including manual small pumps stored at the Jeonbuk 119 Safety Experience Center and Jeonju Deokjin Fire Station, 26 firefighting safety magazines, 3 firefighting-related legal books, 15 photos of fire trucks, uniforms, and fireproof clothing.
Through individual donations, over 200 firefighting relics with diverse and academically high value were collected, such as wooden fire extinguishers from the 1900s, throwable glass fire bombs from the 1920s, fire prevention promotional materials like household fire prevention rules from 1923, and commander insignias from the 1980s.
The relics eligible for donation or reporting include anything related to firefighting, regardless of size or type, from large fire trucks and portable pumps to small badges, as well as documents, books, photos, clothing, equipment, and vehicles.
Donated relics will be utilized as special exhibition, research, and educational materials, considering the quantity and value of the donated items.
Additionally, depending on the importance of the donated items, publication of research materials and applications for designation as nationally registered cultural heritage for important materials will be carried out.
The Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters plans to repair and restore relics requiring urgent preservation treatment using its own budget.
