[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 8th that it will operate a pet etiquette education program during the temporary operation period of Daejeon Companion Animal Park from the 9th of this month to the 31st of next month.

The program aims to establish a culture of pet etiquette and increase guardians' understanding of companion animals to prevent the occurrence of abandoned animals.

The education venue is the Animal Behavior Education Room on the first floor of the Companion Animal Culture Center within Daejeon Companion Animal Park, and the education starts at 2 p.m. (4 p.m. only on the 9th of this month).

The education accepts a total of 10 teams, each consisting of one guardian and one companion animal. The education is free of charge, and applications can be made on a first-come, first-served basis through the ‘Daejeon OK Reservation Service.’ If the number of applicants is less than the capacity, applications can also be made on-site.

The program includes veterinarians, companion animal trainers, and animal-assisted psychological counselors as instructors.

Starting with pet etiquette education during the temporary operation period, Daejeon Companion Animal Park plans to conduct a Little Animal School for kindergarten and daycare children, an Animal Love Class for elementary and middle school students, animal care education and abandoned animal adopter education for park visitors, and animal behavior correction education to address problem behaviors of companion animals after its official opening in June.

Park Ik-gyu, Director of the Agricultural Life Policy Division of the city, said, “We hope that Daejeon Companion Animal Park will serve as a catalyst in spreading a mature pet culture where both pet owners and non-pet owners respect each other through life respect and companion animal care education.”
