[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 7th, President Moon Jae-in held a luncheon meeting with those involved in the Korean New Deal and requested that the next government continue the direction of the Korean New Deal.


In his closing remarks that day, President Moon said, "The digital and green New Deal sectors should be led by private companies, but it is not easy to advance with only regional and private capabilities, so the government must provide strong support."


President Moon stated, "We have set the direction well with the Korean New Deal, and although the government will change just as momentum is building, I believe the next administration should continue efforts to inherit this direction and become a leading country," adding, "Even if the packaging of policies changes, we will closely cooperate with the next government to continue policy efforts in substance." During the luncheon, President Moon also expressed, "I hope the next government will continue to develop the Korean New Deal."


He also praised the attendees, saying, "There are many people in Korean society who work with good intentions for the common good and produce results," and "Thanks to their efforts, our society is gradually becoming a better place to live."


The luncheon meeting was organized to directly hear field experiences related to the Korean New Deal, share success stories, and summarize achievements.


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki evaluated, "The Korean New Deal has received positive assessments from foreign media and international organizations as a preemptive growth engine and inclusiveness recovery measure in the post-COVID era, and it is a universal global policy direction."


Kang Tae-seon, Chairman of BYN Black Yak, shared his experience of successfully commercializing fashion products with outdoor functions by recycling PET bottles, emphasizing, "The Korean New Deal is the path we must take and cannot avoid."


Professor Jang Hyuk-jae of Yonsei University shared his experience developing the intelligent emergency medical system ‘AI Ambulance,’ and Research Committee Member Koo Jae-hoe of the High Technology Research Institute Research Union explained his contribution to carbon neutrality policies by promoting chemical recycling of waste plastics. Additionally, Lee Jong-hyuk, Vice President of SK Geocentric, proposed that President Moon act as an influencer promoting the Korean New Deal even after his retirement.


Senior Researcher Lee Byung-hee of the Korea Labor Institute stated that policy efforts must continue to ensure the Korean-style unemployment assistance achieves ongoing results, and CEO Yoon Seok-won of Testworks, a company building AI training data, said they received great help from the Digital New Deal.


Minister of Science and ICT Lim Hye-sook, Minister of Environment Han Jeong-ae, Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeon Hae-cheol, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs Yoo Eun-hye, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Seung-wook, and Minister of Employment and Labor Ahn Kyung-duk, who attended the luncheon meeting, all pledged to actively support the Korean New Deal in their respective ministries.
