A man in his 60s arrested for causing a traffic accident while stealing construction materials

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A man in his 60s who caused a traffic accident while stealing construction materials at a subway construction site was caught by the police.

The Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced on the 7th that they are investigating Mr. A (64) on suspicion of attempted theft after he tried to steal construction materials at a subway construction site.

Mr. A is suspected of attempting to steal two 20kg steel H-beams placed at the Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 construction site in Usan-dong, Buk-gu, around 11:40 p.m. on the 28th of last month.

During this process, two vehicles driving on the road collided one after another with the H-beams that Mr. A had thrown onto the road in an attempt to steal them, causing an accident.

Mr. A fled without taking any rescue measures but was caught by the police who arrived at the scene.

The police applied only the charge of attempted theft, judging it as a simple property damage incident, despite the suspicion of causing damage during the crime.

Separately, the police confirmed that one of the drivers involved in the accident was intoxicated and have booked him; they plan to send the case to the prosecution soon.
