The foul stench like rotten rags, Changwon City will diligently eliminate it

Concerns Over Cutting Fluid Contamination, 24-Hour Civil Complaint Response

Utilizing IoT Monitoring System and Unmanned Odor Collection Devices

The foul stench like rotten rags, Changwon City will diligently eliminate it Changwon City, Gyeongnam, will inspect whether there is any odor emission from industrial complexes near residential areas.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changwon City in Gyeongnam Province plans to respond promptly to odor complaints caused by winds blowing from industrial areas to residential areas starting in April.

The city has partially confirmed that due to seasonal winds changing direction, a foul smell from spoiled cutting oil used in metal processing is affecting residential areas adjacent to industrial complexes.

This odor, similar to that of a rotten rag, is expected to worsen as summer approaches when factory operation rates in the industrial complex increase, necessitating swift action.

Changwon City will focus inspections on workplaces that use large amounts of cutting oil, checking ▲cutting oil management status and odor occurrence ▲timely replacement of spoiled cutting oil ▲storage and disposal of cutting chips ▲compliance with waste cutting oil storage standards.

The city will distribute guidelines on anti-spoilage agents and cutting oil management, and implement a real-time monitoring system using IoT to enable 24-hour surveillance.

Portable unmanned odor collection devices will be installed near workplaces with frequent complaints and major odor emissions, allowing remote collection during nights and holidays.

A city official stated, “Odors are greatly influenced by weather and wind and vary frequently over time, making it very difficult to accurately identify the source and cause when inspecting complaint sites,” adding, “We are striving to actively respond to complaints by maximizing the use of various advanced equipment.”

Choi Jae-an, Director of the Urban Environment Bureau, said, “Since Changwon National Industrial Complex is adjacent to both industrial and residential areas, it is expected to affect residential areas starting in April,” and added, “We will focus on managing areas with frequent odor complaints to minimize residents’ inconvenience caused by odors.”
