[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Hyundai Department Store's Hyundai Children's Book Museum has won the Grand Prize at the Red Dot Design Award, one of the world's top three design awards.
Hyundai Department Store announced on the 6th that 'Moca Garden,' operated by the Hyundai Children's Book Museum, won the Grand Prize and the main prize at the 2022 Red Dot Design Award.
Established in 1955, the German Red Dot Design Award is considered one of the world's top three design awards alongside the American IDEA Award and the German iF Award. This competition selects winners each year through strict judging criteria including innovative design attempts, artistry, and creativity in various categories such as Product Design.
Among these, Moca Library in Hyundai Children's Book Museum's Moca Garden won the Grand Prize, and the interior design of Moca Garden was also selected as a main prize winner. A representative of Hyundai Children's Book Museum said, "The original interior design, featuring Jaime Hayon's sculptures that stimulate the imagination of visitors from children to adults, emotional colors, and a space composition that captures nature as it is, received high praise and won the Red Dot Design Award Grand Prize."
Moca Garden is a storytelling-type cultural and artistic space opened by Hyundai Children's Book Museum at Hyundai Premium Outlet Space One in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, following Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch. The space design was led by world-renowned Spanish designer Jaime Hayon.
Covering a total area of 1,653㎡ (approximately 500 pyeong), it consists of three facilities: 'Jaime Hayon Garden' named after the designer, 'Moca Play,' an indoor playground for both children and adults, and 'Moca Library,' which includes nature-themed picture books and an educational space called Edu Lab. The museum continuously offers various customer participation cultural contents and programs themed around design and culture and arts, such as Jaime Hayon's artist talk during his visit to Korea and the 'Drawing Project,' an art play program involving over 150 children.
A Hyundai Department Store official said, "Moca Garden has grown into a representative cultural space of the region, attracting about 800,000 visitors annually," adding, "We will continue to present cultural and artistic content that provides artistic inspiration and enjoyment to diverse customers."
Meanwhile, Moca Garden is open daily from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM free of charge. Various contents are also available on the Hyundai Children's Book Museum's YouTube account.
