[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Woo Hyung-chan, Chair of the Transportation Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party, Yangcheon 3rd District), announced on the 6th that he will challenge for a third term as a Seoul city councilor in this local election.

Chairman Woo Hyung-chan has been serving as a re-elected city councilor in Seoul’s Yangcheon-gu 3rd electoral district (Sinwol 1, 3, 4, 5, 7-dong) through the 2014 and 2018 local elections. He has held positions such as Chair of the Special Committee on Aircraft Noise, Vice Chair of the Special Committee on Western Area Metropolitan Railroad Construction, and Vice Chair of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts.

Chairman Woo Hyung-chan stated, “As a third-term city councilor and Transportation Committee Chair, I will take responsibility for starting construction and seeing through the Mokdong Line, Daejang Hongdae Line, and Gangbuk Transversal Line projects that I have been promoting.” He added, “I will achieve regional development through practical solutions to airport noise damage and redevelopment of Sinwol-dong.”

Chairman Woo Hyung-chan also said, “If elected as a third-term Seoul city councilor, I will challenge for the position of Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council.” He promised, “As Chair, I will draw more budget and attention from Seoul City to the region and create real change in our Sinwol area.”

Declaration of Candidacy

This is Woo Hyung-chan, Chair of the Transportation Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council.

I have registered as a candidate with the Election Commission and hung banners at the campaign office.

COVID-19 still makes things difficult for all of us, and the results of the recent presidential election have caused many people to even ignore the news.

However, this too shall pass.

I vow that the spring flowers of 2027 will bloom profusely and beautifully.

The beginning of that is the 2022 local election.

Woo Hyung-chan! I am challenging for a third term as Seoul city councilor.

My challenge for a third term is to keep a bigger promise.

① I will start construction on the Mokdong Line, Daejang Hongdae Line, and Gangbuk Transversal Line that I have been promoting. - We have now overcome the critical phase and are about to begin construction. I will take responsibility to see it through.

② I will approach practical solutions to airport noise damage. - I have secured summer electricity bill cash support, but it is insufficient. I will secure more compensation for damages.

③ I will achieve regional development through redevelopment of Sinwol-dong. - Our area has been unilaterally suffering property damage due to the airport. With strong driving force, Woo Hyung-chan will make it happen.

Together with National Assembly member Lee Yong-seon, we started and pushed forward these promises! I will push them forward without hesitation.

I will challenge for the Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council to do more.

A third-term city councilor can challenge for the Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council. I will draw more budget and attention from Seoul City to the region and create real change.
