Joint Efforts to Create Future Food Industries in the Gwangyang Bay Area
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Song Sang-rak, hereinafter Gwangyang Economic Authority), a representative investment attraction institution in the Gwangyang Bay area, and Jeonnam Technopark (Director Yoo Dong-guk, hereinafter Jeonnam TP), a regional industry promotion specialized institution, have established a foundation for mutual cooperation.
On the 5th, Song Sang-rak, Commissioner of the Gwangyang Economic Authority, and Yoo Dong-guk, Director of Jeonnam TP, held a meeting attended by executives from both organizations. They agreed on the need to develop the strategic industries of the Gwangyang Bay area into future growth engines amid intensifying global industrial competition and discussed joint countermeasures.
Focusing on policies to enhance the overall industrial competitiveness of the Gwangyang Bay area, such as creating a secondary battery parts and energy industry cluster, promoting designation of a carbon-neutral specialized complex through hydrogen energy production, and establishing an innovation ecosystem project that clusters strategic industries like chemicals and steel, the two organizations agreed to share human resources and networks.
Furthermore, they plan to actively contribute to revitalizing the regional economy of Jeonnam through strengthened cooperation among related institutions.
To this end, the Gwangyang Economic Authority and Jeonnam TP will hold a joint workshop in the first half of the year to communicate their core strategies.
In particular, practical cooperation between departments responsible for key industries such as new materials, chemicals, steel, and energy will be strengthened.
Song Sang-rak, Commissioner of the Gwangyang Economic Authority, emphasized, “Since the Gwangyang Bay area serves as a hub for the entire Jeonnam economy, it is necessary to enhance competitiveness within the region through cooperation with related provincial institutions.”
Yoo Dong-guk, Director of Jeonnam TP, stated, “Based on an organic cooperative system between the two organizations, Jeonnam TP will focus its capabilities on fostering small and medium-sized enterprises in Jeonnam and implementing carbon-neutral response strategies for core industries such as steel and chemicals.”
Meanwhile, after the meeting, they visited the New Metal Industry Center under Jeonnam TP, touring magnesium production and machinery parts processing sites, and shared opinions on the urgency of training high-level personnel and developing related technologies to advance the industry.
