Total Project Cost of 1.5 Billion KRW Invested, 746㎡ Total Floor Area, Completion of Two Single-Story Table Tennis Halls
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it held a completion ceremony on the 6th for a newly constructed modern table tennis-exclusive stadium equipped with 15 table tennis courts to promote community sports and create customized sports infrastructure.
The completion ceremony was held in strict compliance with COVID-19 quarantine guidelines, with about 100 attendees including Song Gwi-geun, the governor of Goheung-gun, members of the Goheung-gun Council, representatives from the Table Tennis Association, and the Sports Council.
Until now, despite having 250 table tennis club members including 120 in Goheung, 45 in Nokdong, and 60 in the Silver Team, the clubs had been using only limited spaces within the National Sports Center. Due to the cramped space, not only were sports activities restricted, but they were also unable to receive guidance from professional instructors, resulting in poor conditions.
The dedicated table tennis stadium, with a total project cost of 1.5 billion KRW (450 million KRW from the national government and 1.05 billion KRW from the county), was constructed on a site near Palyoung Gymnasium at 911, Hohyeong-ri, Goheung-eup. Construction began in May 2021 and was completed in March 2022, about nine months later.
The facility covers a total floor area of 746㎡ and consists of two single-story buildings housing 15 table tennis courts, providing ample space for simultaneous matches by the Silver Table Tennis Team and the Youth Club Team. It also includes table tennis training facilities, offices, restrooms, and shower rooms for convenience.
Governor Song Gwi-geun stated, “Community sports facilities that residents can use comfortably at any time are an important factor for continuous urban development and the health of our citizens. We will continue to expand spaces where people can enjoy sports and leisure to strengthen Goheung-gun’s competitiveness.”
As Goheung-gun establishes itself as a city of community sports, securing this dedicated table tennis stadium is expected to contribute to systematic training, the activation of community sports, and the promotion of residents’ health. Additionally, it will serve as a space for intergenerational harmony and is anticipated to play a role in revitalizing the local economy through attracting training camps in the future.
