Designation of Education Special Zone, Establishment of Sambong Middle School, and Installation of County Governor's Direct Education Officer
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Lee Don-seung, a preliminary candidate for Wanju County Governor, presented education pledges including the designation of an education special zone on the 6th.
Preliminary candidate Lee Don-seung emphasized, "As someone more familiar with Wanju education than anyone else, I will implement customized education that creates the future during the 8th local government administration."
Specifically, he proposed △promotion of designation of an education special zone △establishment of a middle school in Sambong Welling City △installation of an education officer directly under the county governor △construction of a gymnasium exclusively for children and youth △support for multicultural language education △improvement of treatment for after-school instructors.
Candidate Lee declared that he would first push for the designation of a regionally specialized development zone (regional special zone) focused on local education and strengthening autonomous capabilities. This regional special zone emphasizes local learning where the region itself becomes the foundation of learning, and it is the Wanju County version of the "Happy Local Day" pledged by Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
He also vowed to ensure the establishment of a middle school in Sambong Welling City, where 6,000 households will be built, and announced that education will be directly managed by the head of the local government by installing an education officer directly under the county governor.
In addition, he stated that through the construction of a gymnasium exclusively for children and youth by remodeling newly built or old public institution buildings, support for multicultural language education, and improvement of treatment for after-school instructors, he will build educational infrastructure comparable to that of any major city.
Since 2017, candidate Lee has served as the chairman of the "Public-Private Cooperation Committee for the Development of Wanju Education," leading Wanju County to become the first local government to fully implement free meals for all students from kindergarten to high school, a campaign pledge of President Moon Jae-in. He is currently serving as the chairman of the Wanju Education Governance Committee.
