[Asia Economy Online Issue Team] Singer and actress Harisu opened up about the shocking experiences she went through during her past entertainment career.
On the 4th, Harisu appeared as a guest on the tvN variety show 'Freehan Doctor M.'
On that day, MC Oh Sang-jin asked, "(After your gender reassignment) surgery, you must have gone through many ups and downs before your debut. You are still the most famous transgender person in South Korea. Looking back, how do you feel about the life you have lived?"
Harisu replied, "Before I started activities as Harisu, I worked as a photo model and did various other jobs. At that time, I did not reveal that I was transgender and kept it hidden. Because of that, I couldn't sign formal contracts and had to work for on-site pay only."
She continued, "Once, when I told someone that I had surgery and became a woman, they said they needed to check and demanded to sleep with me," adding, "This is a true story. Feeling disillusioned by that, I thought about quitting the entertainment industry for about eight months."
However, Harisu did not quit her entertainment career. She said, "But at that time, a company happened to see my profile and contacted me. That's how I was cast. Back then, I thought it would be better to try something and later comfort myself if it didn't work out. With that mindset, I decided to appear this time."
Harisu became known to the public in 2001 as a cosmetics advertisement model, and later gained great popularity as a singer and actress. She married Mickey Jung in 2007 and ended the marriage in 2017 after 10 years.
