Party Support Ratings: Democratic Party 44.8% > People Power Party 37.8%
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Ahead of the June 1 local elections, it was found that 4 out of 10 voters residing in Seoul support the Democratic Party of Korea.
According to a public opinion poll conducted by Realmeter commissioned by Asia Economy on the 6th, in response to the question "Which party do you support or have a favorable view of?", 44.8% said they support the Democratic Party, while 37.8% said they support the People Power Party. The gap between the two parties' support rates was 7.0 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error (±3.1 percentage points).
Following that, the People Party had 8.1%, the Justice Party 2.3%, and other parties 1.7%. The proportion of respondents who answered "I do not support any party" (4.6%) and those who said "I don't know" (0.6%)?the non-affiliated group?was 5.2%.
In the March presidential election, Seoul voters gave more votes to Yoon Seok-yeol of the People Power Party (50.56%) than to Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea (45.73%). This was because Seoul voters, disappointed with the current government's real estate policies, chose "regime change" with the People Power Party over "regime maintenance" with the Democratic Party. However, this support lost momentum after the presidential election, and ahead of the local elections, the Democratic Party's support rate is again showing higher numbers.
By region, the Democratic Party's support rate was highest in the Gangbuk West area at 50.4% (People Power Party 38.0%). In Gangbuk East, it was 46.6% (People Power Party 31.5%), and in Gangnam West, 42.5% (People Power Party 40.0%), all ahead of the People Power Party.
The region with the highest People Power Party support rate was the Gangnam East area, including Songpa-gu, Gangnam-gu, Seocho-gu, and Gangdong-gu, recording 43.7%. In this area, the Democratic Party's support rate was 40.8%.
By age group, the People Power Party had higher support among those in their 20s and those aged 60 and over, while the Democratic Party led in the 30s, 40s, and 50s age groups.
This survey was conducted by Realmeter on behalf of Asia Economy over two days, the 4th and 5th, attempting to contact 80,938 voters aged 18 or older residing in Seoul. A total of 1,015 respondents completed the survey, with a response rate of 1.3%. The survey was conducted using an automated response method with 90% mobile and 10% landline calls, employing a random digit dialing method through a randomly generated sampling frame. Statistical adjustments were made using rim weighting by gender, age group, and region based on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's resident registration population statistics as of the end of March 2022. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For detailed survey information, refer to the Realmeter website or the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
