Gwangju Buk-gu, the Only Basic Local Government in Honam Region Awarded 'Korean New Deal Merit' by Deputy Prime Minister of Economy


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 5th, Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced that it was selected as an excellent institution in the regional balanced New Deal category of the ‘2021 Korean New Deal Merit Awards’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving a commendation from the ‘Deputy Prime Minister for Economy (Minister of Strategy and Finance).’


This award is given to public and private organizations and individuals who contributed to the Korean New Deal and national balanced development, and Buk-gu was the only basic local government in the Honam region to be selected as an awardee.


Buk-gu has been promoting the ‘Buk-gu-type New Deal’ project linked to the Korean New Deal to turn the COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity for leap forward, regional development, and creation of future growth engines.


By systematically managing the progress of last year’s projects and focusing on various New Deal contests, it contributed to the realization of regional balanced New Deal by securing 1 billion KRW in national funds through the AIoT disaster safety management system construction project.


In particular, it focused on Buk-gu-type New Deal projects tailored to regional characteristics, such as creating a digital welfare administration integrated care village, establishing drone infrastructure and promoting demonstration projects, spreading renewable energy, and expanding living SOC.


Recently, it declared a transition to a smart win-win green city and prepared 21 strategic tasks in three major areas to actively respond to the trends and changes of the times.


Commissioner Moon In said, “We will continue to discover and promote creative New Deal projects to contribute to regional development and the spread of the Korean New Deal.”
