[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Economic Justice Practice Citizens' Coalition criticized on the 5th, saying, "The Democratic Party of Korea's central party and Gwangju city party are wavering over the eligibility judgment of a candidate with four prior offenses of drunk driving," adding, "It is unclear whether there is a definite principle for candidate nomination."
On the same day, Gwangju Kyungsilryeon issued a statement, sharply criticizing, "Rather than principles, lawmakers are hastily appointing their own people and judging with inconsistent standards, which is truly unbearable to witness."
They further questioned, "By nominating such unqualified candidates in a line-up, isn't this the reason why grassroots democracy is hindered and the uselessness of local councils is continuously raised?"
Additionally, they emphasized, "The opportunity to confirm that the Democratic Party has painfully reflected and undergone a complete transformation will be the June 1 local elections," directly targeting the Democratic Party Gwangju city party's claim that the nomination committee members cannot be disclosed.
Ultimately, they viewed the situation as "still showing outdated behaviors despite the need to boldly relinquish Honam's vested interests, engage in self-reflection that cuts to the bone, and propose innovative reform measures."
They also pointed out that the unilateral designation of youth and women special zones failed to secure procedural fairness.
Gwangju Kyungsilryeon raised suspicions, stating, "Even though additional points are already given to youth, women, and political newcomers, designating these special zones to completely block other candidates from participating in the primaries only confirms the widespread rumors of pre-selection."
