[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Kwon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party, announced his candidacy for the party's floor leader election, stating, "Based on deep trust with the president-elect, I will become a floor leader who accurately conveys public sentiment and speaks out when necessary."

At a press conference held at the National Assembly on the 5th, Kwon said, "I am challenging for the People Power Party floor leader today," adding, "I will carry the public's will with great responsibility and dedicate myself solely to the success of the People Power Party and the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."

He continued, "Going forward, we must serve the people's desire for an era of freedom and prosperity and respond with responsible change," emphasizing, "We must overcome the challenge of the super-majority opposition party that is trying to hinder the newly inaugurated government and remove the shadows of privilege and unfairness."

To this end, he said, "I will establish a healthy party-government relationship so that the party stands at the center of national governance." Especially, since Kwon served as chief of staff during Yoon Seok-yeol's candidacy and later as the party secretary-general, he emphasized the trust relationship with the president-elect in his candidacy declaration.

Kwon explained, "With the courage to speak out, I will ensure that neither the president nor the party deviates from the people's expectations, and at the same time, based on human trust, I will prevent unnecessary misunderstandings and conflicts between the party and the government."

He added, "I will create an innovative conservative party that resolves unfairness and a strong ruling party backed by the people's support." He stated, "Protecting the core conservative values such as liberal democracy, market economy, and the Korea-US alliance while resolving social unfairness is the direction an innovative conservative party should take," and "I will continue to uphold these values and pursue principled integration rather than unconditional unity."

He also said, "I will lead the public opinion battle to victory by combining pressure and negotiation." This means he intends to exert strong pressure where possible while negotiating with the Democratic Party, which holds 172 seats.

Kwon mentioned the upcoming June local elections and the 2024 general elections, stating, "I will become a floor leader who acts as a field commander leading election victories."

Finally, he emphasized, "I will definitely create a victorious ruling party," and "I will open an era of success for the People Power Party and the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
