Kim Tae-heum "Withdraws from Running for Floor Leader... Shifts Focus to Governor of Chungnam"

Embarrassed by Party Leadership's Request

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 5th, Kim Tae-heum, a member of the People Power Party, announced that he would give up his intention to become the floor leader and run for governor of Chungcheongnam-do.

In a statement released that day, Kim said, "I was taken aback and troubled after receiving a request from the party leadership to run for governor of Chungcheongnam-do."

He added, "I am well aware of the importance of the June 1 local elections for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," and "As a politician from Chungcheong Province, I also have the passion to create a proud era for Chungcheong Province."

The day before, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, and Kim Ki-hyun, floor leader, met Kim in person and encouraged him to run for governor of Chungcheongnam-do.

Kim said, "I will take time to reflect on what the path to success for the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is," and "Thank you for everything so far."
