Suncheon-si Supports Restaurant Ingredient Purchase Costs to Promote Domestic Kimchi

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that it will support the purchase cost of ingredients necessary for the production of domestically produced kimchi to reduce the burden on restaurants using domestic kimchi, which is about three times more expensive than imported kimchi, and to encourage the use of domestic kimchi.

The support target is restaurants certified for the use of domestic kimchi by the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Committee among rest stops and general restaurants under the Food Sanitation Act Enforcement Decree.

Restaurants wishing to receive support can submit an application form to the relevant eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center or the Suncheon branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association by the end of each month.

Non-certified restaurants can apply for the project after obtaining certification under the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System.

If selected as a beneficiary of the ingredient purchase support project, restaurants can receive up to 250,000 KRW per business for the purchase cost of napa cabbage, red pepper powder, salt, garlic, salted seafood, or finished kimchi products necessary for the production of domestic kimchi.

For more details, please check the announcement on the Suncheon City website or contact the Suncheon City Agricultural Food Distribution Division for guidance.

An official from the Suncheon Agricultural Technology Center said, “We will strive to expand certification under the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System to provide consumers with safe food they can trust, reduce the management burden on restaurants using domestic kimchi, and increase the consumption of local agricultural and marine products.”
