[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Police Agency announced on the 3rd that it will strengthen activities to prevent safety accidents such as disappearances as the main bracken harvesting season begins.
In the past three years, there have been a total of 111 cases of getting lost during the bracken season in the Jeju area, with about 70% of them concentrated in April alone.
By region, Gujwa had the highest number of cases (41), followed by Pyoseon (27), Namwon and Jungmun (8 each), and Aewol (7).
To prevent disappearance-related safety accidents, the Jeju Police are implementing measures including ▲installation of banners in accident-prone areas ▲promotion through police station electronic signboards and Jeju Police Agency SNS ▲establishment of an all-out response system involving detectives, mobile units, and drone personnel to secure the golden time in case of disappearance ▲discovery of customized cooperation cases between related organizations in the region.
A police official explained, “In cooperation with Kimnyeong Wind Power and Dongbu 119, numbers are displayed on wind turbines and registered in the 112 location information system, so when someone gets lost in the area, informing the nearby turbine number is one method.”
He added, “To prepare for accidents during bracken harvesting, one should wear bright clothes, accompany companions, and carry emergency items such as a mobile phone and whistle.”
